Thanks For Stopping By!

Andrew's Toy Box was founded in memory of Andrew Fimbel, who passed away on February 17, 2001 from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).  The disease is the No. 1 genetic killer of children under two.

This organization's aim is to be a source of comfort, love and support to sick and needy children around the world.

The Fimbel family extends warm and special thanks to visitors of this site. Your interest in Andrew and SMA makes all the difference in the world!

Andrew's Story & Song

About Our Organization

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing special care packages filled with toys, crafts and books to children with life-threatening illnesses.  Our mission is very simply to provide smiles to the faces of sick children.  We feel children facing the most difficult of life's circumstances deserve all the special treatment they can get.

Quite often, because of expensive medical bills and equipment costs, as well as a lack of time, many parents cannot afford to provide special toys for their children to enjoy. When families are faced with the trying circumstances of dealing with daily challenges of the child's illness, it is very easy for everyone involved to feel isolated and without hope. Receiving a surprise package from Andrew's Toy Box helps both the children and their caregivers know they are not alone.

It is our greatest desire that our care packages provide a fun and welcomed diversion for kids who are enduring a long, gloomy hospital stay.  We believe they not only make a positive impact but also bring great comfort to every child who receives them.

Activities & News

ATB Reaches Out To Children In Four States

ATB gave many gifts this season to the House of Hope (a home for unwed mothers and their babies) and the Annunciation House, which is a homeless shelter.  Both organizations are located in El Paso.

In Wilmington, NC, a multitude of toys and stuffed animals were distributed to the sick children at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Stuffed animals are also being delivered to the pediatric ward at First Health Medical Center in Pinehurst, NC.

Kay's Jewelers in Southern Pines, NC donated approximately 100 darling stuffed animals that were included in these deliveries.

The Kay's Jewelers in El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, NM, and Phoenix, AZ also most generously donated a multitude of stuffed animals to the hospitals in their areas for ATB and we are extremely grateful to them for their amazing, continued generosity and support.

El Paso Toy Drive A Tremendous Success

New El Paso Chapter Heads Aurora (Boris) and Max Ordonez L de Salazar have a whole lot of exciting news to share about this year’s highly-successful toy drive.

St. Luke's Church, where Father Beto Lopez is Pastor, once again sponsored a huge Christmas giving tree for ATB and the generous response of the church members was overwhelming with over a thousand wonderful gifts being donated.

The El Paso Christian Women's Connection and Lundy Elementary School also contributed to the success by donating over 200 toys.

Along with delivering toys to two hospitals in Las Cruces, the Salazar’s, their son Luis, daughters Mayte and Isa and 18 volunteers from St. Luke’s Church in El Paso, delivered toys to several hospitals in El Paso.

The El Paso Children’s Hospital (Thomason) invited Andrew's Toy Box to the Posada that is held every year for the pediatric oncology department.  During the vent, ATB provided over 200 toys and 100 cookies for the children.

Lundy Elementary School in El Paso played a large part in the success of the ATB’s toy drive.  One little boy named Matthew donated his favorite Bat Man figure, which Aurora personally delivered to a six-year-old boy at the El Paso Children’s Hospital’s Posada.   According to Aurora, the child is so ill, he has to wear a mask over his face to avoid being exposed to any kind germ.

“I spoke to him (the sick little boy) and I told him the Bat Man story and how Matthew wanted the Bat Man to be in the hands of a very special boy, just like him,” said Aurora.  “The mother told me that his name is Andrew and that he had asked Santa for a Bat Man for Christmas and also that he has many Bat Man posters in his room.

“The director asked Andrew if he wanted to take a picture with me and the boy agreed. He came closer to me and said that even though I couldn’t see his face, he was smiling under the mask.  I just wanted to cry.”

In addition to El Paso Children’s Hospital, ATB delivered toys for clinicas "La Fe" in El Paso.  On Christmas day, the Salazar’s drove to Juarez and personally delivered toys to the local pediatric hospital.

“We had a great Christmas day,” Aurora said.

ATB also donated 20 plastic bags filled with clothing, school supplies and toys for the poor and sick children in Juarez through the Siguiendo Los Pasos de Jesus organization.

Thank You, Chester, NJ!

Greetings from chilly New Jersey on Election Day.

My Girl Scout Troop has been busy.  We collected toys this weekend for children at Morristown Memorial and Robert Wood Johnson.  We also collected $180 in cash.  We would like to use these funds to provide one or more gift to a child on your list.

We are specifically looking for a child who is in the hospital long term or suffering from a terminal illness.  I believe you mentioned you had a list of wishes from kids all over the country.  I was hoping you could give me a list of these children (age, gender, illness) so I can ask my Junior Troop to pick where they want this money to go.  I want it to be their decision and we will make this decision at our December Meeting.  Please send me a list.  : )

Next, we are hosting an event called Tea with Teddy.  All girls in Chester are welcome to attend a tea party and decorate a card which will be attached to a teddy bear.  These teddy bears will be placed on the beds at Morristown Memorial Hospital in the recovery room.  Every kid who wakes up from an operation will wake up with a friend.

Later this month,  my troop is putting up a Giving Tree at a local restaurant in Chester the week after Thanksgiving.  My girls worked hard at creating beautiful angel ornaments with the gender and age of children.

Andrew's story has truly been inspirational to Chester, New Jersey and watching the magic of giving pass from hand to hand is beautiful.

Thank you for creating this organization and allowing the girls in Troop 95052 to experience the good in people.

Talk soon!

"Receiving the gift box (from Andrew's Toy Box) was a light of hope in a very dark time for our family.  As a parent, it is hard to see your child slipping into depression from being hospitalized. Oliver's gift box helped bring back our smiley, happy boy."
